Are We Really This Scared Now? A Lost DoorDash Driver Gets Shot Asking for Directions

I can’t stop thinking about that DoorDash driver who got shot in Chester, New York. A 24-year-old guy, new to the country, trying to make an honest living delivering food. He gets lost, his phone dies, and he knocks on a door to ask for directions. Next thing he knows, he’s being shot in the back while trying to leave.

Now, I’m all for property rights and the Second Amendment. But since when did we become so scared of each other that a simple request for help turns into gunfire?

This isn’t the America I grew up in.

The man who pulled the trigger is John Reilly, the town’s highway superintendent and a licensed firearms dealer. He’s been charged with first-degree assault and multiple weapons offenses. But beyond the legalities, I’m more concerned about what this says about us as a society.

We used to be a country where neighbors looked out for each other. Where someone knocking on your door was met with a smile, not suspicion. Have we really become so fearful that we see every stranger as a threat?

This isn’t about politics; it’s about humanity. We can uphold our rights and still be decent to one another. We can protect our homes without turning them into fortresses.

Let’s not let fear dictate our actions. Let’s remember the values that made this country great: kindness, community, and a willingness to help those in need.

Because if we lose that, what are we really protecting?
