Energy Secretary Chris Wright speaking on Fox News Sunday

Wright Says Iran Deal Is Near

Wright Says Talks Are Moving

Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Fox News Sunday that the administration thinks it is close to a deal with Iran, even as the rhetoric around the talks stays sharp enough to cut steel. Wright said the pressure campaign is meant to push the Iranian government toward a deal that ends the current standoff. In Washington, this is called strategy. In the real world, it is a mix of threats, public statements, and the usual hope that the other side is as tired of the mess as everyone else.

The Strait Still Worries Shipping

Wright also said the Strait of Hormuz remains a concern because Iran still has the ability to threaten traffic through the lane with missiles and other pressure points. That matters because the strait is one of the most important routes for global oil shipments, and markets react to it the way bureaucrats react to a budget cut, with panic first and questions later. Wright said crews and shipping firms are moving carefully, which is not exactly a shock when missiles are part of the conversation.

Pressure, Leverage, And A Fast Exit

Asked how the administration is trying to force movement, Wright said President Trump is using leverage in more than one form and that uncertainty is part of the plan. He described the approach as creative and said it has produced results over the past 16 months. Wright predicted a deal that would serve U.S. interests and, in his view, put Iran on a better path. That is the sort of sentence that sounds neat on TV and then gets handed to diplomats, lawyers, and energy traders to untangle for months.
