An Obama appointee, Chief Judge James Boasberg, has dropped an emergency injunction that orders planes already in the air to turn back. On Saturday, Judge Boasberg granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) that pauses the deportation of thousands of Venezuelan nationals under the Alien Enemies Act. For 14 days, deportations are on hold. The order came amid a rush by far-left groups like the ACLU and Democracy Forward, who are desperate to shield what they call “illegal aliens.” But make no mistake: this is a blow to national security, putting dangerous gang members on American soil a little longer than they should be.
Even more shocking, later on Saturday, the judge ordered the Trump administration to recall planes that were in the process of deporting gang members linked to the Tren de Aragua. As Politico reports, “Any plane containing these folks that is going to take off or is in the air needs to be returned to the United States however that is accomplished,” Boasberg said. “Make sure it’s complied with immediately.”
The facts are clear. According to the ACLU, there are two flights en route to Central America—and one flight bound for El Salvador may have already taken off.

Former Gorsuch clerk and founding member of the Article III Project, Mike Davis, doesn’t hold back on the criticism. “An activist Obama DC judge thinks he has the power to order the President to turn around planes deporting vicious Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang members?” Mike Davis said. “When will the Chief Justice and Justice Barrett end this extremely dangerous judicial sabotage of the presidency?”
