Democrats’ Bizarre Trip to El Salvador: A Closer Look
Four House Democrats landed in El Salvador on Monday. Their mission? To meet a man they now revere: MS-13 terrorist Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Yes, you read that right.
According to their own press release, Reps. Robert Garcia (CA), Maxwell Frost (FL), Yassamin Ansari (AZ), and Maxine Dexter (OR) arrived “to pressure the Trump Administration to abide by a Supreme Court order to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.” They even claimed Garcia is “a Maryland man with protected legal status who was unlawfully deported by the Trump Administration,” and went so far as to slam his detention as a “direct violation of due process” under the U.S. Constitution.
It’s hard to miss the irony here. While they’re busy kissing up to a convicted criminal, real American victims are being ignored. The visit comes on the heels of yet another embarrassing trip – Senator Chris Van Hollen’s failed attempt to meet with Abrego Garcia. Van Hollen’s fiasco started when El Salvador’s vice president flat-out refused him an audience, not to mention being repeatedly denied entry into the infamous CECOT prison.
Things finally took a twisted turn when Van Hollen did meet Garcia. The senator, in a scene straight out of a bad movie, spent the evening sharing margaritas with the man in question. He even gazed lovingly into Garcia’s eyes. It’s a shocking image for anyone who cares about law and order.
Trump’s Department of Homeland Security didn’t hold back. In a fiery statement on X, the agency fired off a short message:
“Four more U.S. lawmakers just landed in El Salvador to meet and shake hands with a terrorist,” the DHS account reads. “All four of them voted against the Laken Riley Act.”
They didn’t stop there. The statement also asked, “Why are these politicians putting terrorists illegally in our country over American victims?”
It’s worth noting that taxpayer dollars aren’t being used to fund this little vacation to El Salvador. That’s not the case with Van Hollen’s expenses, though.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) made a smart move by refusing to support this debacle. Such common sense is rare in today’s political circus.
