California Voters Lean Republican in 2026 Poll
Things are heating up in California. A recent poll shows real change on the horizon. Apparently, 48% of likely California voters would consider a Republican for governor in 2026.
This is a shocker in a state that hasn’t gone red for president since 1988 and has long been seen as a Democrat playground. Voters are sick of soaring gas prices, runaway utility bills, a homelessness crisis, rising crime, and a tumble of gender ideology debates. Even Hollywood isn’t enough to cover up the flaws of the current leadership.
The poll came out after surveying 700 likely voters between March 6–9. Conducted by respected analyst David Wolfson and sponsored by the Madison McQueen media firm, the results are nothing short of a political earthquake. Voters are tired of being ignored by the state’s progressive elite. And no, folks aren’t buying Gavin Newsom’s smug hair gel or his empty promises anymore.
As KABC reported, 72% of voters say homelessness is still a major problem after years of Democrat control. 71% say Democrats have failed to lower the cost of living. And 69% say the Dems haven’t done enough to bring down energy costs. Even more telling? 73% of voters support funding Prop 36, the anti-crime initiative that Democrats have refused to implement. Who’s shocked? Nobody.
In an unexpected twist, the most popular Republican candidate in a separate poll was Mel Gibson. The guy famous for The Passion of the Christ has taken a swipe at Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass over their wildfire mismanagement in a viral clip. Mel says he’s not planning to run, but voters clearly crave someone with backbone.
Trump’s influence is still strong. The so-called “Trump Effect” is shifting California red one county at a time. In 2024, Trump’s vote share grew in almost every county, and Republicans even flipped three legislative seats. GOP voter registrations are surging by the hundreds of thousands while Democrat numbers continue to shrink.
The stage is set for 2026 to be nothing short of a political bloodbath for California Democrats. The supermajority they once relied on might just crumble. Better get your popcorn ready.
