Conservative activist Leonard Leo is on a mission. He’s well-known for his efforts to reshape the U.S. legal system, and now he’s leading a massive $1 billion campaign against what he calls “liberal dominance” in corporate America, media, and entertainment.
The Marble Freedom Trust Takes Action
Leo played a significant role in steering the Supreme Court to the right during President Trump’s administration. Now, through his nonprofit group, the Marble Freedom Trust, he’s ready to take on both government entities and big businesses. In an interview with the Financial Times, he stated, “We need to crush liberal dominance where it’s most insidious.” His plan? To direct resources towards building talent and capital formation pipelines in news and entertainment—areas where left-wing extremism is glaringly evident.

Challenging Woke Corporations
Leo has made it clear that his organization will support groups that criticize companies and financial institutions pushing “woke” ideologies. He believes these companies should be held accountable for prioritizing left-wing ideas over consumer interests.
A Major Player in Conservative Legal Circles
Within conservative legal circles, Leo is a heavy hitter. He’s known for his influence in getting conservative judges nominated—including Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. His work with the Federalist Society has been pivotal in promoting a strict interpretation of the Constitution.
Building Momentum Under Bush and Trump
During George W. Bush’s presidency and later under Trump, Leo’s influence surged. He was instrumental in confirming three conservative justices to the Supreme Court during Trump’s tenure, which helped secure a strong conservative majority.
A Shift After 2020
After Trump’s loss in 2020, Leo stepped back from his daily operations at the Federalist Society but remained co-chair. In 2021, he launched Marble Freedom Trust with substantial backing from Barre Seid, an electronics mogul who provided $1.6 billion. This initiative aims to combat what Leo terms “dark money” from the left. Over its first three years of operation, Marble has already spent around $600 million.
The Mission: Limited Government & Western Values
Leo’s mission focuses on restoring limited government while promoting freedom, personal responsibility, and Western values. His new $1 billion campaign targets liberal ideas infiltrating private enterprises—specifically issues surrounding diversity, equity, and climate change agendas.
Investing in Local Media & Building Networks
In addition to tackling corporate liberalism head-on, Leo plans to invest in a local media company within the U.S., aiming to create stronger conservative networks nationwide through organizations like the Teneo Network.
No Direct Influence on Elections
While Marble supports groups aligned with Trump’s agenda, Leo insists that they’re not trying to directly influence the 2024 presidential election. Their primary focus is helping Republicans reclaim control of the Senate from Democrats.
