A Dinner Run Turns Violent
Three 18-year-old female freshmen were attacked Wednesday night near a Wingstop by the University of Cincinnati. WKRC reported that the students rode personal electric scooters to the restaurant for dinner before encountering at least eight older teens blocking their route near a crosswalk. The students said the group yelled, cursed, and made threats before taking the scooters and launching the assault. A quick meal run became a serious public-safety concern in a matter of moments.
The Video Shows the Attack
A video provided to WKRC shows some of the older teens beating the students while others take their scooters. One victim is punched repeatedly in the face, while another is jumped and assaulted. All three were beaten badly enough to end up at UC Medical Center. The footage is graphic and may disturb some viewers, so caution is warranted before watching. It is not exactly a reassuring advertisement for the area around a major university.
Four Arrests, More Suspects Sought
Police later arrested four of the youths and charged them with aggravated robbery. One student got her scooter back, but police are still searching for the other suspects. The arrests mark the first reported legal action in the case, while the investigation remains active. For the students and their families, the recovery of one scooter is a small result in a case involving three injured young women and a much larger question about security near campus.
Victims Describe a Fast, Chaotic Assault
Speaking with WKRC, the students described being surrounded by yelling, cursing, threats, and confusion. One said, “We were bombarded by yelling and cussing and threats and saying things that we didn’t know what they were talking about.” Another added, “And then they take our scooters,” before saying, “My friend gets hit in the face. Four girls jump on me.” She also said, “Men are attacking her, and it just was all so quick.” One victim’s mother said her daughter was hurt so badly that she was crying in the back of an ambulance.
Parents Demand More Security Near UC
The attack comes amid several other incidents near the University of Cincinnati campus. WKRC reported that seven people were shot in five separate incidents near UC from late August through early September. Parents say the pattern requires action. “What has to happen for us to get more security in that area?” one parent asked. “Is a student going to have to lose their life? I mean, we need action!” Parents are not asking for another polished safety message. They are asking for students to be protected while walking through the area.
Ramaswamy Responds to the Video
Ohio GOP gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy responded to the video on X on Sunday. “This is the sad state of lawlessness on the streets of Cincinnati,” he wrote. “Every person in Ohio needs to hear this story and understand the stakes at the ballot box.” He added, “It’s time to put an end to this madness.” His post framed the attack as both a Cincinnati safety issue and a statewide political concern.
