Zach Bryan performing onstage at Gillette Stadium wearing a Free Palestine T-shirt

WATCH: Navy Vet Zach Bryan Wears ‘Free Palestine’ Shirt at Gillette Stadium

The Onstage Message

Country singer Zach Bryan appeared onstage at Gillette Stadium wearing a black “FREE PALESTINE” T-shirt. Posts dated October 3, 2026, showed the message during a concert by one of country music’s biggest current acts, whose audience includes both younger and older fans. The shirt quickly drew criticism from people who viewed it as a one-sided political statement in a conflict that began with Hamas’s attack on a music festival in Israel. Some critics also described the slogan as antisemitic. Either way, the wardrobe choice made the singer’s position impossible to miss.

The Veteran Behind the Singer

Bryan’s military background adds another layer to the reaction. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2013 at age 17, following the service of his mother, father, and grandfather. He spent eight years as an aviation ordnanceman, including overseas tours in Bahrain and Djibouti. During off hours, he wrote songs, and a 2019 video recorded in a barracks helped make him famous while he was still on active duty. On October 14, 2021, at age 25, the Navy honorably discharged him so he could pursue music full time.

A Heavy Backdrop

The criticism is rooted in more than a concert shirt. The report places Bryan’s message against the backdrop of Hamas’s October 7 attack on a music festival in Israel, where young adults were killed, taken hostage, raped, or tortured. It also notes that Bahrain, where Bryan served, was hit by Iranian drones and missiles in February 2026. A Congressional Research Service report dated September 23 said the strikes damaged Bahraini infrastructure and U.S. facilities, including serious damage at NSA Bahrain. The acting Navy secretary said the Fifth Fleet base was hit hard, and reported damage was put at at least $400 million. Some service members could view Bryan’s slogan as a painful slight.

Another Message From the Band

A member of Bryan’s band was also seen wearing a shirt bearing the name of a young Palestinian girl killed in the conflict. The report notes that there were no reports of band members wearing the names of any of the young victims killed during Hamas’s attack on Israeli concertgoers. That contrast became part of the online argument over which victims receive public recognition. A separate post criticized Bryan personally and attacked his position, but claims made in a social-media post should not be treated as established facts without supporting evidence.

The Kraft Connection

Gillette Stadium is controlled by the Kraft Group, led by Robert Kraft, the Jewish, pro-Israel owner of the New England Patriots. On September 4, 2026, Macklemore opened for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium, said “Free Palestine,” accused Israel of genocide, and performed “Hind’s Hall.” Kraft later barred Macklemore from Sheeran’s September 25 and 26 dates at Gillette, citing antisemitic rhetoric. Macklemore said Kraft and other stadium owners forced Sheeran to drop him from the tour. Those Gillette shows were later canceled because of weather. Bryan’s decision to perform at the same stadium in the same slogan was viewed by some as a direct response, although no statement from Bryan confirming that motive is provided here.

Fans Push Back

One fan said he drove six hours to Gillette Stadium and was upset to see Bryan and band members appear in shirts carrying political messages. The complaint reflects the sharp divide created when a concert becomes a platform for a foreign-policy statement. Fans who came for music may not share the artist’s view of the conflict, and the report suggests Bryan could lose supporters over the decision. The reaction also shows that public statements from major entertainers can reach far beyond the stage, especially when they touch a war involving American service members and civilian victims.
