What the dashcam showed
Dash camera footage shared with Eyewitness News shows the moments before a semi-truck lost control on the 210 Freeway in Irwindale on Saturday morning. In the video, the big rig veers off the right shoulder, crosses the center divider, and collides with several vehicles before jackknifing and shutting down lanes on both sides of the freeway. The footage gives a clear look at how fast a routine drive can turn into a major crash, especially when a heavy truck loses control in moving traffic.
One woman killed, dozens hurt
Authorities said a 58-year-old woman died in the collision. Thirty-two other people were injured, including 10 who were taken to hospitals, and six of those hospitalized were children. The California Highway Patrol said at least three vehicles were involved, though the full number was still unclear. Video from the Citizen app showed debris scattered across the roadway after the crash. Officials have not released the identity of the truck driver, and they have not yet said what caused the semi to lose control.
Another major truck crash adds to the concern
The Irwindale wreck came after another serious semi-truck crash in Southern California last October, when three people were killed and several others were badly injured in Ontario. Witnesses said that crash involved a truck moving at high speed into slowing traffic and led to a fireball that involved eight vehicles, including four big rigs. The driver, Jashanpreet Singh, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Between these crashes, the public keeps hearing the same promises about safety and accountability, while families are left with the far more immediate cost.
