Campus Call Takes a Hard Turn
Police body camera footage from the University of Central Florida has resurfaced online, showing a February 2025 encounter involving 27-year-old Jarrett Vick inside a campus building. According to the footage and reports, an officer was on campus for a stolen vehicle investigation when Vick began shouting about other people being in the building. The officer warned that Vick could be put in handcuffs and taken for a Baker Act psychiatric evaluation, which in Florida can allow an involuntary mental health hold. Vick responded with profanity, because apparently the campus conflict-resolution seminar was not available that day.
Pronouns Become the Flashpoint
The situation escalated after the officer radioed that “he’s having a breakdown,” prompting Vick to yell, “She! She! Just say the right pronouns!” The officer then pulled out mace and pursued Vick around the room as backup was called. Whatever one thinks about the pronoun politics, the video shows the kind of mess police are increasingly expected to handle in real time: mental health concerns, campus rules, identity disputes, public safety, and a crowd of future administrators waiting to write a policy memo after the fact.
Struggle Ends With Taser and Arrest
When another officer arrived, police moved to arrest Vick, who resisted during a struggle that lasted nearly four minutes, according to the footage. Officers said afterward that Vick threw punches and kicks while resisting. Vick was eventually tased, taken to the ground, and handcuffed after continuing to withhold a hand from officers. After Vick was placed in a patrol car, officers discussed whether a Baker Act hold was needed, with one saying Vick was “gonna need some care” and should not be placed with the general jail population.

According to the New York Post, Vick faced multiple charges after the incident and was listed as male in arrest records. When contacted by the Post, Vick said the police had “f–king harassed” Vick and blamed officers for later media attention. The video was published by Inside The Blue TV and has drawn new attention because it captures a modern campus problem in one short clip: officers are asked to be law enforcement, social workers, referees, and pronoun compliance staff, all while trying not to get punched.
