Fatal Shooting at Caesarea Junction
Video circulating online shows a man shot at the Caesarea Junction gas station in Israel. The man killed was identified as Yanis Yushvaev, 40, of Or Akiva. Local media described him as the boss of Israel’s Caucasian Mafia, while reports also note that he had been arrested often but had never been convicted. According to The Times of Israel, the footage shows a man in a hoodie and cap approach a restaurant at the station as Yushvaev and two other men walked out. The gunman passed them, turned back, drew a handgun, and shot Yushvaev from behind at close range before fleeing.
Police Search for the Gunman
Yushvaev was critically wounded and later pronounced dead at a hospital. Police are working to find and arrest the person who carried out the shooting. Reports said Yushvaev was well known to police and had been repeatedly arrested in recent years on suspicion of violent crimes. The allegations included shootings, grenade attacks, and car burnings, but those cases did not lead to convictions. He was most recently detained in February at Ben Gurion Airport after returning from Moscow and was released within days.
A Public Profile and a Criminal Allegation
The Times of Israel reported that Yushvaev owned restaurants in Or Akiva. In an October 2025 interview with Channel 12, he called himself “a legitimate businessman” and said he was “very well-established, and drives a Bentley, and that bothers police.” The Telegraph described him as a 40-year-old father of three and said he was considered one of Israel’s most dangerous criminals. That contrast is central to the case as it has been reported: a public business profile on one side, years of serious police suspicion on the other, and no conviction in court.
Organized Crime Concerns Broaden
The Telegraph also reported that organized crime violence has raised wider security concerns in Israel. In recent weeks, branches of Japanika, a popular sushi restaurant chain, were targeted with grenades, gunfire, and attempted arson. Police linked the attacks to an escalating feud between the Mosli and Jarushi crime families. Thirteen attacks were reported over several days, including gunfire at a restaurant in Herzliya and a suspected grenade attack that caused a fire at a Netanya branch. The U.S. embassy in Jerusalem issued a security warning to Americans in Israel about organized crime threats in Tel Aviv, Jaffa, and Herzliya.
