Chase ends in Maverick County
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers chased a Jeep Grand Cherokee in Maverick County after investigators linked it to human smuggling. DPS says the driver, identified as Yoisdelvis Nunez Acosta of Cuba, tried to hide in the brush after troopers used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. Air support from DPS Aircraft Operations helped bring the pursuit to a close, because apparently smugglers now need aviation support to keep up with the paperwork.
Two suspects arrested, six migrants taken over
Troopers say the Jeep was carrying six illegal aliens from Mexico and Vietnam. All six were handed to Border Patrol after the stop. DPS also reported that another vehicle, a red RAM 1500 pickup, served as a scout car during the smuggling operation. Its driver, Alexander Rodriguez Acosta, was also arrested. The setup was simple enough, which is how most bad ideas are when they involve a highway and a very loud engine.
Another Del Rio case shows the same pattern
DPS also pointed to a separate arrest in Del Rio this month. In that case, a trooper found a suspect vehicle in a hotel parking lot, and the driver tried to flee on foot before being caught. Troopers say that vehicle was carrying four illegal aliens. The details change, but the routine stays the same: scout car, cargo vehicle, foot chase, arrest, then a press release explaining why border enforcement still looks a lot like chase scene management.
