Kennedy Points to Fauci’s Private Notes
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared Monday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” with Laura Ingraham to discuss diary entries attributed to Dr. Anthony Fauci. Kennedy said Sen. Rand Paul published the entries after finding them on 11 government servers. According to Kennedy, the notes show a wide gap between Fauci’s private thinking during the COVID-19 pandemic and the confident public messaging Americans heard from podiums, cable hits, and the federal public health machine. In Washington, of course, “trust the science” often seems to mean “trust the memo after the lawyers finish reading it.”
The Vaccine Injury Claim
Kennedy focused on one diary entry describing a June 2021 pulmonary infarction. He said this happened about five months after Fauci publicly received a Moderna COVID shot at the National Institutes of Health. Kennedy argued the episode points to a vaccine injury and said Fauci did not disclose it to the public. That is Kennedy’s claim, not a settled finding presented in the segment. Still, the allegation lands in the middle of a larger dispute over how honestly federal officials discussed vaccine risks, side effects, and uncertainty while urging Americans to follow official guidance without too many pesky questions.
Lab-Leak Questions Return
Kennedy also cited diary passages about an early February 2020 call involving scientists who discussed whether a furin cleavage site in the virus could have been engineered in a lab. He argued those notes show Fauci privately considered lab-leak concerns while publicly backing a natural-origin explanation. Kennedy tied that issue to his long-running claim that U.S.-funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan helped create liability for the federal government. He renewed his call for a national “truth commission” to examine the funding trail and the pandemic response, which would require Washington to investigate Washington. Masks, Distance, Immunity, and the Message Machine
On the program, Kennedy accused Fauci of misleading the public about masks, social distancing, transmission, natural immunity, and vaccine effectiveness. The broader charge is that federal health officials projected certainty in public while holding doubts in private. That matters because those policies did not stay in a binder at HHS. They affected schools, churches, businesses, hospitals, travel, and family life across the country. Americans were told to accept sweeping rules as settled science, then later watched parts of that certainty get quietly revised, footnoted, or memory-holed by the same expert class that never misplaces its television bookings.
Celebrity During a Crisis
Fox News and conservative outlets also highlighted diary excerpts in which Fauci described the pandemic period as one where it was “not hyperbole” to say he was the most famous person in the country. Kennedy and Ingraham framed those remarks as evidence of personal celebrity playing too large a role during a national emergency. Fauci’s defenders would likely say fame came with the job. Critics see something else: a public health system that turned one official into a brand while asking everyone else to sacrifice, comply, and stop noticing when the story changed.
