President Trump’s Tuesday appearance in the Oval Office quickly became a test of who was actually running the room. During an announcement about a new compensation program for fraud tipsters, several reporters tried to shout questions over him, and the president was not interested in letting the briefing turn into a media free-for-all.
The administration’s program would reward fraud whistleblowers. President Trump made the announcement alongside Vice President JD Vance, chairman of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, task force Vice Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, and independent journalist Nick Shirley.
According to the source account, much of the mainstream media coverage at the event focused on criticizing the initiative or shifting the conversation away from the massive fraud taking place across the nation. That strategy ran into a fairly significant obstacle: President Trump was standing right there and was willing to answer the shouting with a little volume of his own.
Early in the event, a woman began yelling at President Trump about Ukraine. As she repeatedly shouted over him, he snapped, “wait!” and shushed her. It was not exactly a complicated request. Let the person speaking finish a sentence before launching another barrage of questions.
Andrew Feinberg of The Independent also found himself on the receiving end of the president’s frustration. When Feinberg tried to shout a question, President Trump pointed toward him and said, “No, no, listen to you. Hey!” Trump explained that he was pointing to call on someone else, then added, “I don’t know who the hell you are, but you better be careful,” before calling on another reporter.
That still did not settle things down. When Feinberg began yelling again after President Trump pointed to a reporter nearby, the president cut him off with, “Quiet, Quiet!” He then asked, “What’s wrong with you? Are you a sick person?”
Feinberg answered sarcastically, “Not that I know of, sir.” President Trump replied, “I actually think there’s something wrong with you.” The exchange was blunt, funny, and a sharp reminder that a press briefing is supposed to involve questions and answers, not a contest to see who can yell the loudest.
Feinberg declined to comment to The Gateway Pundit about the confrontation. He later posted on X while criticizing Vice President JD Vance, writing, “Mr. Vice President, if you’re going to insult me at least have the guts to tag my account.”
The shouting match may have distracted from the policy announcement, but it also highlighted the divide at the event. President Trump was trying to discuss a plan aimed at rewarding people who expose fraud, while some reporters appeared determined to steer the discussion elsewhere. For a room supposedly focused on accountability, the president’s message was hard to miss, even with all the yelling.
