Southwest Airlines aircraft on the tarmac

Southwest flight attendant Meesh Carpino demands better Trump assassins

Posts that set off the backlash

What the Southwest employee allegedly wrote

Southwest Airlines is under pressure after social media posts from flight attendant Meesh Carpino surfaced and appeared to cheer violence against President Donald Trump. The posts came after a man identified in reports as Cole Allen was arrested following a shooting at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner weekend. According to the source material, Carpino wrote, “Oh, sweet baby Jesus,” then complained, “WE NEED BETTER ASSASSIN’S!” She also reportedly posted, “One day we will wake up to his obituary,” and echoed the phrase “86 47,” which has already drawn federal attention in another case. Airline safety is supposed to be boring. This was not that.

Southwest shifts into damage control

The company says it is addressing the posts

Southwest told the New York Post that it was aware of the posts and was addressing the situation. The airline said the content does not reflect its values and that it takes the matter seriously. That is the standard corporate script for, “Please do not ask us why this became a headline.” Southwest did not comment on personnel details, which is normal, but it also leaves the public with the same old problem: a polished statement and no clear answer. In the age of social media, companies love to talk about values right up until someone tests them in public.

Passengers notice when the bar drops

Boycott calls followed the posts

X users quickly called for Carpino to be fired and said they would not feel safe flying Southwest if she stayed on the payroll. The source material says she also referred to MAGA supporters as “hillbilly ISIS” and used the phrase “F**K ICE,” which only widened the gap between what the airline sells and what one employee posted online. Travelers do not expect a flight crew to share their politics. They do expect basic judgment, especially from people responsible for their safety in a metal tube at 35,000 feet. If Southwest wants trust, it will need more than a carefully worded memo and a shrug.
