Washington’s War on Law and Order: Sheriff Wagner Takes a Stand
Remember when blue states yelled about “respecting democratic institutions”? Now they throw those same words out when it suits them. Washington is now punishing a sheriff for doing his job. And it’s a slap in the face for anyone who truly believes in the rule of law.
Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner helped ICE nab criminal illegal aliens. Instead of praise, he’s getting sued. Washington Attorney General Nick Brown claims Wagner broke the “Keep Washington Working Act” by sharing info with federal agents. In Washington, it seems that enforcing the law is now against the law.
From ‘The Post Millennial’:
“The Justice Department stands with Adams County against Washington state’s overreach,” said Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Under Attorney General Pam Bondi, we’re sending a clear message: states cannot obstruct federal immigration enforcement. We will not tolerate interference.”
The DOJ isn’t taking any chances. On April 18, they officially filed a statement of interest to back Sheriff Wagner. This is a big win for anyone fighting sanctuary policies. The federal government is stepping in to defend law and order, exactly as President Trump promised.
Sheriff Wagner’s office reportedly shared information in at least 212 instances when assisting ICE. Washington says that violates their sanctuary law. But Wagner and his team argue that federal law trumps local rules. Now even the DOJ is on their side.
Before the Justice Department threw its weight behind him, Wagner went straight to Washington, DC. He testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement. There, he made it crystal clear: “ [Brown’s] lawsuit is not about justice or protecting communities, it’s about enforcing a political agenda that restricts law enforcement’s ability to cooperate with federal authorities,” Wagner told Congress. He warned that sanctuary policies let repeat offenders, drug traffickers, and violent criminals roam free. He also exposed how criminal gangs exploit these laws to dodge the consequences of their actions.
And Wagner isn’t alone. Other Washington sheriffs have joined him. They’ve met with Attorney General Pam Bondi and ICE officials to express their concerns over these out-of-control sanctuary policies. Meanwhile, the House GOP Judiciary Committee has launched an investigation into AG Brown. They want every document on Washington’s sanctuary laws. But true to form, the state dodges that request, insisting its laws even up with federal rules—a stance the DOJ completely rejects.
America First Legal sums it up perfectly: “The state’s brazen attack on a sheriff working to uphold the rule of law and protect his community from criminal illegal aliens is despicable. It must not stand.”
