The announcement of President Donald Trump’s running mate for the General Election has stirred up the media, mirroring the reactions that Trump himself often incites. In a recent interview with CNN correspondent Steve Contorno, JD Vance, chosen as Trump’s running mate, was asked to comment on Trump’s remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris’ race.
Contorno, seemingly eager to stir controversy, questioned Vance about Trump’s statement at the National Association of Black Journalists where he noted that “Vice President Harris is ‘all of a sudden black.’” The conversation then turned towards Vance’s family – his wife Usha is of Indian descent and they have three biracial children – and whether Trump’s comments gave him pause.
“Trump simply called out Harris for being a chameleon and shifting her identity based on her audience.”
Vance adeptly deflected Contorno’s attempt at provocation. He stated that Trump was merely pointing out Harris’ tendency to adapt her identity according to her audience. He cited an instance where Harris adopted a fake southern accent during a visit to Georgia despite being raised in Canada and previously emphasizing her Indian heritage before identifying as a black politician. Vance found it “totally reasonable” for Trump to call this out.
Vance then shifted focus onto what he believes is the crux of the matter: Harris’ inconsistency both racially and politically. Despite projecting an image of being tough on crime as a former prosecutor, she advocates for open borders. While claiming support for police forces, she had previously advocated for their defunding just three years ago. According to Vance, these inconsistencies reveal her lack of principles and disregard for truth.
“Harris does what she thinks will gain her power regardless of what is best for the country.”
Trump’s speech at the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention in Chicago further highlighted Harris’ inconsistency. Despite ABC’s Rachel Scott’s aggressive questioning, Trump maintained his composure and humorously pointed out Harris’ fluctuating identification with her Indian ancestry and her father’s African-American heritage.
Contorno’s attempt to provoke Vance over Trump’s comments spectacularly backfired. Both Vance and Trump perceive Harris as someone who lacks consistency and principles, always ready to adapt herself for personal gain rather than the country’s best interest.

Trump’s endorsement of Vance, along with his own wit in handling the media, reinforces the belief that he is the leader America needs. He navigates public opinion not for personal gain, but for the betterment of the nation. It is crucial that voters are informed of this, rather than being swayed by biased media narratives.
