Hayden Panettiere, the actress known for Remember the Titans, Heroes, and Nashville

Report: Hayden Panettiere Took an Oxycodone Pill Allegedly Laced With Fentanyl

What the Report Says

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that actress Hayden Panettiere took one pill on the day she died, and that the pill was oxycodone allegedly laced with fentanyl. The account has been reported through law enforcement sources rather than presented as a final public medical finding. The report also cited the danger of fentanyl, noting that it is far more powerful than heroin and that very small amounts can cause a fatal overdose. Panettiere was 36 years old when she passed away.

Investigators Examine the Reported Drug Supply

TMZ sources said Panettiere had a longtime drug dealer in Los Angeles who supplied several black-market prescription drugs, including oxycodone. They also said she took several drugs purchased from the dealer during a flight from Los Angeles to South Carolina the day before her death. Authorities believe she took an oxycodone pill the next morning and believe that pill contained fentanyl. The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Los Angeles office is reportedly examining the relationship between Panettiere and the dealer while trying to trace the pill back to its source.

The 911 Call and Emergency Response

An unidentified friend called 911 at 1:51 p.m. on the day of Panettiere’s death from an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina. The caller reported an “unresponsive female” in “cardiac arrest.” Panettiere and her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, had flown from Los Angeles to South Carolina, although the report said it was unclear whether he made the call. A paramedic could reportedly be heard saying that Panettiere had suffered an overdose while CPR was in progress.

Remembering Panettiere’s Career and Family

Panettiere was known for her roles in Nashville and Heroes, as well as for appearing in the 2000 film Remember the Titans when she was 10 years old. She had previously spoken publicly about struggles with alcoholism and postpartum depression. Her younger brother, Jensen, died in 2023 at age 28 from an undiagnosed heart condition. Panettiere also left behind a young daughter with her former fiancé, heavyweight boxer Wladimir Klitschko.
