Police Say 15-Year-Old Pushed Amazon Worker From Train, Faces First-Degree Murder Charge

Police Describe a Fatal CTA Red Line Incident

Chicago police say a 15-year-old girl used force to push 29-year-old Kyle Bickham from a moving Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train Monday at about 2:30 p.m. near 69th Street. Bickham fell onto the electrified third rail and was struck by another train, according to police. His family said he had been heading back to his home in Lansing after working at an Amazon warehouse in Cicero. The allegations against the teen remain unresolved, while the loss to Bickham’s family is already painfully real.

The Teen Was Held After a Juvenile Court Hearing

Police arrested the teenager Friday, four days after they say the push occurred. She appeared in juvenile court Saturday. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said the court found probable cause on all counts and ordered her held in custody. The felony counts listed in the report include first-degree murder, mob action, murder by other forcible felony, and aggravated battery to a transit employee. The teen also faces other charges, and the court order means she remains in custody while the case proceeds.

Bickham’s Family Shares Its Grief

Bickham’s family described him as a son, brother, uncle, family member, and friend who was loved by many. In a GoFundMe statement, they wrote, “Our hearts are completely broken. Today, we received the devastating news that our beloved Kyle Bickham was found deceased.” They called him “a light, goofy, kind, caring” person who could always bring laughter to those around him. The family said his passing was sudden and asked for help giving Kyle the homegoing he deserved and sending him home to the Lord. Their words focus on the person behind the case: a loved one whose trip home ended in tragedy.
