NYC Mayor Adams Plans Significant Collaboration with Trump

Adams Takes a Stand Against Sanctuary City Laws

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has made waves in the political world. He’s looking into ways to get around the city’s “sanctuary city” laws to help President-elect Trump deport illegal immigrants. In a recent chat with CBS’s Marcia Kramer, Adams stated that keeping the city safe is his main focus, and he’s ready to take bold steps—even considering an executive order.

Targeting Criminal Illegal Aliens

Adams is particularly interested in addressing criminal illegal aliens, a position he claims to have held since before the 2024 election. He said, “I stated this prior to the election.” Adams wants to clarify that he’s not changing his tune now that Trump is coming into office. He expressed frustration with the City Council’s reluctance to change the sanctuary city laws. Because of that, he’s directing his legal team to look into how he can use his executive powers to make changes.

Executive Orders on the Table

When pressed about using an executive order to override sanctuary policies, Adams was clear: “We’re looking at that.” His commitment is unwavering—protecting New Yorkers is his guiding principle. He emphasized that violent offenders should face consequences, no matter their immigration status. “If you are committing crimes on migrants, on immigrants, undocumented, documented, it’s all the same to me,” he stated.

Meeting with Border Czar Tom Homan

This daring move coincides with Adams’ upcoming meeting with Tom Homan, the incoming Border Czar and a strong supporter of strict immigration enforcement. Adams intends to share his concerns and explore strategies for deporting violent offenders. He referenced intelligence gathered by NYC officials who went to Colombia to investigate dangerous criminals arriving from Venezuela. “These are dangerous people,” he remarked.

A Shift in New York City’s Stance

Adams’ willingness to work with federal immigration authorities marks a big shift from New York City’s usual progressive viewpoint on sanctuary policies. While the City Council remains firmly against any changes, Adams is determined to find a way forward. “Once the City Council made it clear we’re not changing the sanctuary city laws to allow ICE to go after those dangerous offenders… I went to plan B,” he explained.

Public Safety Comes First

This bold action fits well with the new Trump administration’s focus on immigration enforcement and public safety. Adams’ practical approach is striking a chord with everyday New Yorkers who are tired of rising crime rates and want their city protected. Whether his legal team can successfully navigate these changes through executive action remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: Adams is prioritizing the safety of his constituents—even if it means stepping outside party lines.
