Fox Makes It Official
Maria Bartiromo is no longer with Fox News Media, ending a run of more than a decade across Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. Fox announced the move Thursday, saying, “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.” The company did not say why she parted ways with the network. That leaves viewers with the usual corporate fog machine, where a major anchor exits and the public gets one polite sentence wrapped in HR satin.
Her Shows Are Being Reworked
Fox said the last episode of Mornings with Maria, which aired weekdays from 6 to 9 a.m. Eastern on Fox Business Network, aired Thursday morning. Beginning Friday, the show will become Mornings with FOX Business with rotating anchors. Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street, which aired Fridays from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Eastern on FBN, will shift to FBN’s Wall Street this week, hosted by Cheryl Casone and later led by rotating anchors. Fox also said a new weekday programming schedule will be announced in the coming weeks, because nothing says stability like “rotating anchors” and “details later.”
Sunday Morning Futures Also Changes
Bartiromo’s Fox News Channel program, Sunday Morning Futures, will also change hands. Fox said Jason Chaffetz will host the show this Sunday, with a new permanent host to be announced later. Bartiromo had reportedly been absent from her programs for the last couple of weeks before the announcement. For a media company that reaches nearly 200 million people each month, Fox is keeping the explanation short. The viewer is left to read the schedule board like tea leaves, which is not exactly a high-tech communications strategy.
A Long Career in Business News
Bartiromo is best known for financial reporting and made her CNBC debut in 1993 from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. She later anchored CNBC programs including Squawk Box, Closing Bell, and On the Money with Maria Bartiromo. She joined Fox News Media in 2014 and went on to anchor Mornings with Maria, Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street, and Sunday Morning Futures. Her departure marks a major programming change for Fox Business and Fox News, even if the official explanation is being delivered in the tiny cup normally reserved for airline coffee.
