Sen. Ron Johnson talks DHS funding on Sunday Morning Futures

Johnson Demands DHS Funding After Shooting

DHS Funding Stalls

Sen. Ron Johnson used Sunday Morning Futures to push for full funding of the Department of Homeland Security, including the Secret Service, as the Senate remained stuck in a budget fight. Maria Bartiromo said the Secret Service had gone 71 days without full funding because Democrats were pressing for changes to the president’s immigration crackdown. Johnson said the delay is more than a routine spending dispute. He framed it as a public safety issue at a time when security concerns are already high after the shooting discussed on the program.

Johnson Wants a Fast Vote

Johnson said he agrees with President Trump that the Senate should end the filibuster so DHS funding can move without more delays. He called the current stall “obnoxious obstruction” and said the chamber should hold a vote right away. In his view, seven Democratic senators could help break the deadlock, and he named John Fetterman as one lawmaker who might be willing to cross the aisle. The pitch was direct: fund the department first, then fight the next round later.

Johnson Points to Protest Violence

Johnson also widened the argument beyond DHS funding. He compared Tea Party rallies with Black Lives Matter protests that, he said, became riots and led to injuries and deaths. He asked who pays for riot gear, who trains activists, and who organizes disruptive pressure campaigns aimed at ICE and border officers. Those claims are Johnson’s, and they deserve the usual caution that comes with political talk shows. But the larger message was clear enough. He believes Washington is too quick to excuse some unrest and too slow to confront the networks behind it.

Media Coverage Comes Under Fire

Bartiromo asked whether the incident might force the media to rethink its tone, and Johnson said he doubted it. He described the legacy press as a communications arm for Democrats and the radical left, then suggested that reporters would keep treating the fight as a partisan script. That view may be blunt, but it is also familiar. In Washington, every crisis arrives with a ready-made press release, a spin cycle, and a cast of experts explaining why the mess is someone else’s fault.
