A devastating discovery in Orange County
Authorities are investigating a family tragedy in Central Florida after deputies found 17-year-old twins Carlo Montiel Infantino and Melanie Montiel Infantino dead inside their family home. On Wednesday, September 30, Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to a residence in the 1200 block of Courtney Chase Circle for a well-being check. When they entered, they found the twins in the living room. Both had suffered multiple stab wounds, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Their father, Ivan Montiel Roa, 63, was also found dead inside the home. Detectives believe Roa killed Carlo and Melanie before dying by suicide. Officials have not publicly disclosed a motive or established exactly when the deaths occurred, and the investigation remains active.
What investigators have confirmed
The twins attended Cypress Creek High School in Orlando. Orange County Public Schools confirmed the deaths of two students and said grief counselors would be made available to students and staff affected by the news. Local reporting also said the Sheriff’s Office had no record of previous calls for service at the residence. None of the three family members had criminal histories, according to that reporting. Those details describe the known background, but they do not explain what happened inside the home. Investigators have not released a full account of the events leading up to the deaths, and authorities have not said what may have driven Roa to allegedly attack his children.
A family already carrying grief
According to Univision Orlando, the twins’ mother and Roa’s wife died in June, only months before the discovery in the home. That loss adds painful context to an already devastating case, while still leaving the central questions unanswered. Authorities have not said whether the earlier death played any role in the events under investigation. For now, detectives have publicly stated what they believe happened, but the motive and exact timeline have not been established. The lack of a known explanation has left neighbors and the broader community searching for answers that investigators have not yet provided.
School and neighbors respond
Neighbors were stunned by the discovery in a community residents described as normally quiet. Florida State Rep. Rita Harris, who lives nearby, called the deaths “a tragedy” and said the community was heartbroken. “It’s devastating as a mom, as a human being,” Harris told WESH. The school district’s grief counselors are being made available to help students and staff cope with the loss. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has released no further details about what happened before the killings and continues to investigate the deaths.
