Many Americans admire the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. His influence is felt across social strata, from blue-collar workers to Hollywood’s elite. But does he deserve to be placed among the pantheon of America’s greatest presidents?
Affirmed and renowned actor Jon Voight believes so. In a recent interview with Variety, Voight expressed his admiration for Trump while discussing various topics with journalist Stephen Rodrick.
“It was at a party in New York in the 1990s,” Voight recalled about his first meeting with Trump. “[Trump] came all the way across the room to tell me how much he loved one of my films.”
Voight’s admiration for Trump has remained steadfast over time. So much so that he readily compares him to Abraham Lincoln, arguably one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history.
“I ask him if he seriously thinks Trump is the equal of Abraham Lincoln in the pantheon of American presidents, as he has repeatedly stated,” Rodrick wrote.
“Absolutely,” Voight responded.
“Who else has faced greater challenges and enemies since Lincoln?”
Voight made it clear that his high regard for Trump isn’t influenced by any personal accolades, such as receiving both the National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medal from him.
“I don’t care about all that stuff,” Voight said. “I only have a few years left, and I want to spend them trying to save our American way of life.”
The actor’s support for Trump has remained unwavering even in the face of adversity, as evidenced by his reaction to an assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Well, that’s your opinion,” Voight told Rodrick. “I’m very careful about what I say. But when I see the attacks on this man, I know they’re coming from a hateful, evil place.”
Voight remains hopeful that his outspoken support for Trump might eventually help change the perception of others towards both him and the former president.
“If Donald Trump is being revealed in this way, maybe they will see a supporter like me in a different light.”
Jon Voight firmly believes Donald Trump deserves recognition as one of America’s greatest presidents. Despite differing opinions on this matter, Voight’s conviction stands tall.
