Dispatch Audio Released
Police dispatch audio from the response at the Fairfax home was released Thursday after the deaths of former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina. In the recording, a dispatcher says the caller reported that his father might have stabbed his mother, that she was lying on the ground bleeding, and that it was not clear where his father was. Another responder said the son was downstairs while crews worked to clear the house. The family car was still in the driveway, a plain detail that says enough without needing decoration.
What Reports Say Came Before
According to reports citing NBC4 Washington, the couple’s two teenage children were home when the shooting happened. Their 16-year-old son reportedly made the 911 call after finding his mother shot. The same reports said Fairfax had recently lost custody of the children and had been ordered to move out of the marital home. Court records cited in coverage said a judge viewed heavy daily alcohol use as part of the background in the custody dispute. Family courts can produce pages of findings and orders, but they do not stop a crisis once it starts.
Earlier Allegations Followed Him For Years
Fairfax also faced major public scrutiny in 2019 after Dr. Vanessa Tyson accused him of sexual assault, and later Meredith Watson made a separate accusation. Fairfax denied the allegations and said the encounters were consensual. Those claims were heavily covered at the time and stayed tied to his public image long after he left office. The press and the political world often prefer a fast story to a careful one, but the record tends to move at its own slower pace, which is usually less convenient and more important.
