America’s Border Mess: A Crisis of Lost Kids and Broken Promises
For years, our leaders turned a blind eye to our broken immigration system. Trump called attention to it in 2015, and the Democrats laughed him off. Now, after decades of corruption and abuse, no one can ignore the disaster.
The swamp’s neglect at the border has cost millions of Americans dearly. And it’s not just Americans who’ve suffered. Migrants have been abused and exploited by smugglers—and by corrupt Washington Democrats. The left seems to have zero concern for anyone entering illegally. Even when they take migrants into custody, it’s clear they don’t plan on taking care of them.
The latest government report proves what many suspected: federal agencies have lost control at our southern border.
From ‘Just The News’:
“After meeting with more than 140 individuals from DHS and other Federal agencies, we determined U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) cannot effectively monitor the location and status of all unaccompanied alien children (UACs) once released or transferred from Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) custody,” the report reads.
The Department of Homeland Security Inspector General released a damning report. Between 2019 and 2023, over 448,000 unaccompanied minors were transferred to Health and Human Services custody. Most were later released to sponsors. But here’s the shocking part: more than 31,000 kids were sent to addresses that were incomplete. That’s like losing a small city of children in a maze of bad paperwork.
It gets worse. ICE failed to issue Notices to Appear (NTAs) to over 233,000 of these kids. Without these notices, court dates never happened. And for those who did get a court date, more than 43,000 simply never showed up. No wonder the system is in chaos.
The Inspector General warned bluntly: “Without an ability to monitor the location and status of UACs, ICE is unable to facilitate court appearances and has no assurance UACs are safe from trafficking, exploitation, forced labor, or involvement in criminal activities that pose a risk to local communities.”
This isn’t just bureaucratic bungling—it’s a humanitarian catastrophe. Vulnerable children, who were supposed to be under government protection, are now lost in a sea of administrative failure. How can a government that meticulously tracks your tax deductions let tens of thousands of children vanish?
Representative Tony Gonzales (R-TX) put it bluntly: “The Biden administration’s total failure at the border had disastrous consequences, and it’s shameful that even innocent, unaccompanied children were caught in the crosshairs.”
Where was the outrage from Democratic leaders? The same folks who claim to fight for child welfare stayed silent. Meanwhile, an administration that ferried illegal immigrants across America couldn’t even manage basic records for kids.
This mess raises hard questions. How many of these children fell victim to human trafficking? How many are exploited for labor or pushed into gang activities? The truth is, we simply don’t know—and neither does the federal government.
Federal agencies are busy pointing fingers. ICE claims they weren’t informed about sponsor locations by other agencies. The Inspector General admits staffing problems hampered monitoring efforts. But these excuses mean nothing when children’s lives hang in the balance.
For four years, the Biden administration maintained policies that led to a surge of unaccompanied minors. They dismantled effective Trump-era policies without establishing viable alternatives. The result? A system overwhelmed to the point of collapse.
Now, the Trump administration is left with a monumental challenge. They must secure our borders and, more importantly, locate thousands of vulnerable children lost in bureaucratic incompetence. It’s time to put an end to the chaos and restore accountability at our border.
