Oklahoma Candidate Found After Search
Barry Christian, 54, a Republican candidate for Oklahoma Senate District 38, was found dead in late April after he had been reported missing. Christian had disappeared and missed a scheduled meeting, prompting concern and a search. Authorities later found his pickup truck in the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area in Beckham County. A reporter at the scene said investigators had located a vehicle belonging to Christian, who had been reported missing the day before.
Medical Examiner Rules Death a Suicide
The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled Christian’s death a suicide. According to News 9, a summary report from the office listed the probable cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head. The report said Christian was found dead on April 30 about nine miles south of Erick and two miles east of Highway 30. Early on, it had not been clear whether foul play was involved, but the medical examiner’s finding states that Christian died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Family Objects to Release of Findings
Christian’s family criticized the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office for releasing the findings without their consent. In a statement reported by News 9, the family said, “Our entire family has been absolutely heartbroken by this decision by the Medical Examiners Office to release this information without our consent or the investigating body’s permission. The investigators have been working very closely to solve the death of my father. Justice will be served, we will not rest until my father is avenged.” The statement shows the family remains deeply distressed as authorities and public offices handle the case.
Christian Was Running as a Republican
At the time of his death, Christian was seeking the Republican nomination for Oklahoma Senate District 38. His campaign website described him as a Trump supporter who backed traditional conservative values. The site said he would stand with President Trump, oppose leftist government overreach, oppose reckless open borders policies, support law enforcement, defend unborn babies, empower small businesses, support election integrity, push for American energy independence, and defend the First and Second Amendments along with constitutional freedoms.
