A member of the royal guard was holding vigil beside Queen Elizabeth’s coffin in Westminster Hall when he collapsed and fell face-forward onto the stone floor Thursday.
A video of the dramatic event shows a member of the royal guard trying to steady himself as he stumbled off the stage briefly before repositioning himself on the podium. Moments later the guard who had been standing in full uniform next to the Queen’s coffin, passed out and fell face-first onto the stone floor.
Cameras captured the horrifying fall, but the live stream of the somber service was immediately cut when the guard fell and remained off for several minutes while the guard was attended to.
The Queen’s coffin is resting on a raised platform and is being guarded at all times by units from the Sovereign’s Bodyguard, The Household Division, and Yeoman Warders of the Tower of London.
The identity and condition of the guard are unknown at this time.
