  • Trump says Ontario used a manipulated Reagan clip to influence U.S. courts.
  • He cut off trade negotiations, framing tariffs as national security.
  • The Reagan Foundation denies permission and is weighing legal action.
  • The dispute lands amid a Supreme Court fight over the tariffs on November 5.

President Trump late Thursday evening announced he has terminated all trade negotiations with Canada after Ontario ran an advertisement that used selectively edited audio of President Reagan to cast tariffs in a negative light.

He accused the Ontario government of trying to interfere with an ongoing legal battle over his tariffs, which is scheduled for oral argument before the U.S. Supreme Court on November 5 after a lower court found the measures unlawful.

“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs,” Trump said.

The ad was for $75,000,000 They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts,” President Trump said on Truth Social.

“TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT,” Trump added.

The government of Ontario reportedly spent $75 million on the advertisement.
