Trump Takes Steps to Defend Students’ Right to Pray in Schools
President Donald Trump has just announced new measures to protect students’ right to pray in public schools.
The president slammed the increasing hostility against faith in the education system.
This announcement came during the second official hearing of the Religious Liberty Commission at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
The session focused on religious liberty and public education, featuring students who shared how their beliefs were challenged or punished in classrooms.
“For most of our country’s history, the Bible was found in every classroom in the nation, yet in many schools, today’s students are instead indoctrinated with anti-religious propaganda and some are even punished for their religious beliefs,” Trump stated.
He brought attention to the case of Hannah Allen, a Texas student reprimanded for praying with classmates during lunch for an injured friend.
“To support students like Hannah, I’m pleased to announce this morning that the Department of Education will soon issue new guidance protecting the right to prayer in our public schools,” Trump declared.
While details on the new guidance are still unclear, a recent Supreme Court ruling favored a Washington high school football coach who was fired for leading voluntary post-game prayers, affirming that the district violated his constitutional rights.
‘America Prays’ Initiative
Trump also took this opportunity to launch the “America Prays” initiative.
This initiative encourages Americans to gather in groups of ten once a week to pray for the nation.
It emphasizes Trump’s commitment to restoring faith in the public square and defending the free exercise of religion against what he views as attacks from the Left.
Addressing Anti-Christian Violence
During the hearing, Trump also promised to seek answers regarding last month’s attack on a Catholic school in Minnesota, where a transgender-identifying male opened fire.
“Two weeks ago, in Minneapolis, a demonic killer shot 21 people and murdered the two precious children at a Catholic school,” Trump said.
“Our hearts are shattered for the families of those beautiful children.”
“The Trump administration will have no tolerance for terrorism or political violence, and that includes hate crimes against Christians, Jews, or anybody else,” he added.
Religious Liberty Commission’s Mandate
Trump established the Religious Liberty Commission in May through an executive order.
The commission is responsible for producing a detailed report on the foundations of religious freedom and identifying the greatest threats to it today.
For Trump, this effort is part of a larger push to reinstate prayer, faith, and traditional values in American public life.
It marks a clear contrast to decades of court rulings and policies that limited religious expression in schools.
