Trump Grants Full Pardon to Gold Star Mother Tina Peters but State Prison Term Remains

Trump Pardons Tina Peters Amid Electoral Fraud Dispute

President Trump made headlines on Thursday by granting a full pardon to Tina Peters, a Gold Star Mother imprisoned for challenging the 2020 election results. Despite the pardon, Peters, who is serving nine years in a Colorado state prison, will not be immediately released due to state charges. Last week, a magistrate judge dismissed her habeas corpus petition that sought early release. Trump minced no words, calling this a political witch hunt. “For years, Democrats ignored Violence and Crimes of all types. The only crime they recognize is not voting for them,” Trump said. He accused Democrats of focusing on Peters just for wanting honest elections. Trump delivered the pardon message on Truth Social, slamming the perceived injustice against Peters for her insistence on election integrity.

In October 2024, Tina Peters was found guilty and saw her role in preserving 2020 election evidence that was allegedly meant to be deleted. This evidence of voter fraud became a focal point in her trial. Trump called the punishment—a result of a vicious political battle—cruel and unusual.

Previously, Trump ordered the Department of Justice to work on Peters’ release, criticizing Colorado’s legal approach toward her case. “Tina is an innocent Political Prisoner,” he emphasized, urging for justice amid what he described as Democratic persecution to mask alleged election crimes.
