Over in Washington, policy fights have never been fiercer. Polls show big shifts that could reshape how our country is run. Recent data paints a raw picture: a CNN/SSRS poll found just 29 percent of American adults hold a favorable view of the Democrat Party—the lowest mark in CNN polling history dating back to at least 2002. An NBC News poll isn’t much kinder with just 27 percent of voters viewing the party positively, and only a small slice even “very positive.”
Then President Trump stepped in with his trademark bluntness. In an exclusive interview from the White House, he declared, “The Democrat Party broke themselves, and they’re continuing to do so,” Trump told Breitbart News during an interview in a private dining room off the Oval Office. The message is loud and clear. He blamed policies on transgender issues and open borders for the party’s collapse, arguing these stances are pushing everyday Americans away. “These aren’t 90-10, these are 95-5, and I don’t know who the 5 are,” he said. “But they have a new one that maybe is the worst of all: ‘Let’s fight so that Tren de Aragua, the worst criminals in the history of our country, can come back into America where they belong.’”
Trump wasn’t done. He pointed to the recent deportation of TdA gang members as a prime example of real action versus political obstruction. The president invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to swiftly eject these dangerous criminals from our nation. In a last-ditch move, James Boasberg—chief judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia—ordered, “Any plane containing these folks that is going to take off or is in the air needs to be returned to the United States.” It was a bold attempt to block Trump’s move, but it failed. By Sunday morning, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele announced that 238 suspected TdA members had landed in El Salvador, with video showing them being deplaned and secured. “That clip was unbelievable,” Trump remarked.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt put things in perspective. She explained that the deportations were perfectly legal because the suspected gang members were already outside U.S. territory when the order came down. “Moreover, as the Supreme Court has repeatedly made clear — federal courts generally have no jurisdiction over the president’s conduct of foreign affairs, his authorities under the Alien Enemies Act, and his core Article II powers to remove foreign alien terrorists from U.S. soil and repel a declared invasion,” Leavitt stated. In plain language, one judge in one city can’t stop actions that keep America safe.
Meanwhile, President Trump is rolling ahead at what many are calling “warp speed” during his first hundred days. His agenda is striking a chord with mainstream America, a stark contrast to Democrat policies that seem to alienate voters. The record-low polling numbers are a clear sign: people are fed up with the status quo. As Trump observed, the Democrats appear set on continuing to break themselves—and from where many stand, that’s working just too well.
