Trudeau Meets Trump: A New Approach to Drug Trafficking
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was spotted meeting with President-elect Trump and his team at Mar-a-Lago over Thanksgiving. This meeting comes as they agree on a plan to tackle drug trafficking.
Tariffs and Border Security
This meeting followed Trump’s announcement of a hefty 25% tariff on all products coming from Mexico and Canada until both countries step up their border security. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders.”
Trump emphasized that this tariff would stay in place until drugs—especially Fentanyl—and illegal immigration are brought under control. He said, “Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long-simmering problem. We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price!”
A Productive Meeting with Trudeau
Just four days later, there was Trudeau sitting down with Trump alongside Elon Musk and others from his team. After their discussion, Trump shared insights about their productive conversation.
He noted that they talked about critical issues like the Fentanyl crisis fueled by illegal immigration. The impact of these problems has devastated countless lives across America. He stressed the need for fair trade deals that protect American workers while addressing the significant trade deficit between the U.S. and Canada.
The Fight Against Drug Epidemics
“I made it very clear that the United States will no longer sit idly by as our citizens become victims of this drug epidemic,” Trump declared passionately. He pointed out how much suffering has been caused by drug cartels pushing Fentanyl into our communities from China.
“Prime Minister Trudeau has made a commitment to work with us to end this terrible devastation of U.S. families,” he added confidently. They also discussed other vital topics like energy policies, trade relations, and Arctic strategies—issues crucial for both nations moving forward.
