Taxpayers Brace as Liberal Traffic Cameras Target Hardworking Americans

San Francisco’s So-Called “Equity” Traffic Cameras: A Double Standard to Punish Success

San Francisco is at it again. The city rolled out a new traffic camera system that favors low-income drivers. It’s a slap in the face for hardworking Americans.

This isn’t about safety. It’s about punishing the middle class while rewarding dependency. Under this scheme, speeding fines vary wildly based on your income.

If you’re a well-off driver, you could end up paying fines starting at 10∗∗forviolationsthatcostmiddle−classcitizens∗∗50 or more.

As reported by The Western Journal, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) recently installed 33 new traffic cameras. There’s a two-month “warning” period, but the fines won’t be equal once they kick in.

The fine breakdown is as follows:

  • 11-15 mph over the limit: 50(standard),25 (low-income), $10 (public assistance).
  • 16-25 mph over: 100(standard),50 (low-income), $20 (public assistance).
  • 26+ mph over: 200(standard),100 (low-income), $40 (public assistance).
  • 100+ mph: 500(standard),250 (low-income), $100 (public assistance).

This system is a clear case of social engineering. It sends a message that only those who work hard pay the full price.

“If you’re caught driving too fast, you have to pay a penalty because you’ve made the roads less safe for your fellow humans. The fine is supposed to sting a little bit. It’s supposed to discourage you from driving too fast in the future. Otherwise, why bother?”

But here’s the kicker: only the middle class gets hit hard. As one report in the Staten Island Advance noted:

“It might encourage some people to keep speeding… And it shows that only some of us, people of means, are responsible for safer roads.”

This is the direct outcome of radical leftist policies. They’re flipping the script, putting victimhood before personal responsibility. While leaders like Donald Trump stood for law and order, Democrats in cities like San Francisco are instead letting your bank balance dictate your punishment.

The SFMTA proudly touts its “low-income transit fares and fee waivers,” openly admitting that this scheme benefits those under 200% of the federal poverty level. Meanwhile, regular, working-class citizens end up footing the bill for full-price violations.

This isn’t about keeping our roads safe. It’s about wealth redistribution and overreach by government bureaucrats. If they cared about our safety, they’d enforce equal penalties for equal violations. Instead, they’ve set up a system that divides Americans by class.
