Social Security fights back — Commissioner slams Warren’s claims
The Social Security Administration fired back at Sen. Elizabeth Warren after she accused the agency of scrubbing data and hiding problems.
In a Sept. 16, 2025 letter and a data report shared with Fox News Digital, SSA Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano called Warren’s take wrong. He says the numbers show the agency is more open and running better under the Trump administration than it did under the prior administration.
“SSA currently reports nearly three times the number of data elements on the performance webpage under the Trump Administration (30) than it did under the Biden Administration (11),” Bisignano wrote.
He didn’t stop there. He pointed to faster service. He pointed to fewer backlogs. He pointed to more published metrics.
“These facts conclusively demonstrate that you are wrong in alleging a lack of transparency.”
Bisignano also rejected the idea of a cover-up. He said SSA has improved customer service, with “shorter wait times on the phones and in offices, as well as reduced backlogs.” The agency reports average phone wait times fell from 29 minutes in 2024 to 16 minutes in 2025 — and August dipped to just 9 minutes.
Pending disability cases dropped too. The backlog went from nearly 1.2 million in August 2024 to about 907,000 a year later. Processing times improved, from 231 days to 217 days. Retirement and survivor claims were on time 87% of the time in August 2025, SSA says.
Bisignano says 81 percent of the agency’s performance measures are better than before. The rest are about the same. The goal, he wrote, is simple: be a “digital-first” agency that serves people whether they call, walk in, or use the website. Constant monitoring of key indicators is part of the plan.
He urged Warren to cooperate instead of stoking panic. He accused her of spreading “fearmongering and reckless lies that Social Security is going away.”
“The time has come to stop weaponizing Social Security,” he wrote. “The American people do not want a Social Security War Room. They want their leaders to protect and preserve Social Security, just as President Trump has promised.”
The office of Senator Elizabeth Warren did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
