The fallout is real. CBS News reported the agents lost pay for up to six weeks. They’ll also be put on restricted duty, “with less operational responsibility.”

Matt Quinn, Secret Service Deputy Director, laid it out on CBS News. As he put it, “We aren’t going to fire our way out of this,” adding that his team will fix the root cause of these failures. Quinn also said, “Secret Service is totally accountable for Butler. Butler was an operational failure and we are focused today on ensuring that it never happens again.”

The scene at the rally was chaotic. Would-be assassin Thomas Crooks managed to climb onto a roof near Trump’s location. In a crazy close call, a bullet even grazed President Trump’s ear on July 13, 2024. One rallygoer lost his life, and two others were injured, with one in critical condition.

The whole debacle brings up serious questions. How did Thomas Crooks pull off his stunt alone? The answer seems to lie in serious security lapses. Crooks even flew his drone over the fairgrounds at least twice that day while the Secret Service battled connectivity issues.

According to WaPo, the agents never told local police to secure the roof Crooks used. It was also previously reported that they didn’t pick up radios provided by Butler County law enforcement.

Bodycam footage shows a Butler Township police officer losing his cool when his warnings went unanswered. “Before you motherf*ckers came up here, I popped my head up there like an idiot by myself, dude,” he said. “Then he turned around and I f*cking dropped, and I started f*cking, I was calling out, ‘Bro, f*cking on top of the roof.’ F*cking, we’re not on the same frequency?”
