Senate Breaks Filibuster to Reopen the Government
Sunday night shook things up in the Senate as they finally voted to break the filibuster, clearing a path to get the government back on track after 40 long days. Eight Democrats finally came around and sided with the Republicans, giving the nod to reopen the government. The likes of King (ME), Fetterman (PA), and a few others took the plunge.
The motion breezed through on its 15th attempt with a 60-40 vote scorecard. The Republicans, wasting no time, plan to tweak the bill, throwing in some full-year appropriations to boot.
It’s been a tense month with Democrats playing hardball and supposedly holding back until, as they mentioned behind closed doors, “planes are falling out of the sky.” CNN even stepped into the spotlight, pointing out that the Democrats had the shutdown in their hands.
“You’re looking live at the Senate floor as the Democratic filibuster has been broken,” admitted CNN.

Meanwhile, Speaker Johnson is ready to call House members back to Washington when the Senate wraps its vote, offering a 36-hour heads-up to push forward the amended bill. “[Trump] is very anxious to get the government reopened,” Johnson noted.
