Republicans Push Back Against Accusations of a 'Woke' Agenda

Republicans on the House Financial Services Committee are defending their agenda and denying any claims that it is "woke" after receiving criticism for including "diversity and inclusion" in the finance and housing industries.

When questioned about the diversity language, committee chairman Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) responded that the committee intends to give priority to "kitchen table issues" in a statement supplied to Breitbart News.

That would be in contrast to Democrats' priorities, according to McHenry, who claimed they had spent the previous two Congresses squeezing businesses until they "parroted their woke social agenda."

“For four years, Democrats wasted the valuable and limited time and resources of our committee to push burdensome mandates on American job creators. Democrats’ goal was to name and shame companies until they parroted their woke social agenda,” McHenry said.  “Under my leadership, Republicans will refocus the Committee on the kitchen table issues that matter most to American families, from charting a path out of the dismal Biden economy to expanding opportunities for all Americans.”

Despite this, "diversity and inclusion" are listed as priorities under each of the committee's six subcommittees. The right-leaning Washington Free Beacon first made this discovery on Friday in an article titled "Woke Agenda Survives: These House Republicans Are Sticking With "Diversity and Inclusion."

Concerned about the Democrat buzzwords, the conservative organization FreedomWorks noted that they are "pillar" of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing, which is movement among influential left-leaning Wall Street investors to promote diversity and climate change projects.
