Psaki Shares Remarks After Rally Shooting Incident

Ex-White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, has appealed to the Republican National Committee to reconsider its scheduled programming for the forthcoming convention. This appeal comes in light of the recent unsuccessful assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. During her guest appearance on “Meet the Press” this Sunday, Psaki voiced her apprehension following the incident and emphasized the importance of toning down divisive political rhetoric.

As we approach Monday’s commencement of the Republican National Convention, Psaki is urging the party to modify their roster of speakers and planned events with an aim to lessen tension and “restore civility.” She underscored that while calls within Democratic ranks for President Biden’s exit from the 2024 race have temporarily ceased, maintaining the convention’s current format could potentially reignite such discussions.

“The convention is about to start and unless there are changes in its programming, I fear that neither tone nor civility will be restored,” said Psaki. “We’ll have to wait and see if any changes are made but if things remain as they are, it will only escalate tensions further. That’s not a civil way to conduct a convention.”

Despite these recent developments, plans for the Republican National Convention will continue as scheduled but with increased security measures in place. Trump, who is set to be officially nominated as GOP’s candidate for 2024, reassured his followers with a message on Truth Social stating, “I truly love our country and all of you. I eagerly anticipate addressing our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.”

Psaki, who now hosts a show on MSNBC, cautioned against exploiting current circumstances for advancing political agendas or platforms. She argued that such actions could potentially escalate the threat and possibly provoke retaliatory measures.

“Anyone with a platform who believes this is an opportune moment to politicize issues and attack the opposition is only contributing to the danger. It increases the likelihood of retaliation,” she stated. “I’m incredibly scared. I fear for journalists, for people from all parties who have public platforms.”

The assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from western Pennsylvania, was neutralized by law enforcement after he fired at Trump from a rooftop approximately 130 yards away. The incident resulted in one rally attendee’s death and left two others critically injured.

Despite having blood on his ear and face, Trump defiantly waved to his supporters as he was swiftly escorted off stage by the Secret Service, shouting, “Fight!”

Records reveal that Crooks, a registered Republican, had only participated in the state election held on Nov. 8, 2022 and had donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project – a political action committee backing Democratic candidates.
