A mother in Kansas City, Missouri, recently killed her six-year-old kid and a dog. Tasha Haefs apparently called 911 on Tuesday night, claiming that the devil was attempting to harm her, according to KCTV. Before hanging up the phone, she denied having a mental ailment.
"The community now knows some of the terrible details of the death of this 6-year-old child," Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a statement. "It takes our breath away."
Officers arrived to her residence and discovered blood on the front steps, as well as the sound of a woman singing. As they knocked on the door, the woman began to sing louder.
Inside the house, one officer noticed what seemed to be a decapitated head. Authorities discovered Haefs with blood on her legs and feet through the backdoor.
The decapitated 6-year-old boy's body was discovered near the kitchen. They also discovered a decapitated dog and two knives down in the basement.
"It’s difficult to imagine the grief for this boy’s family. For the child’s classmates. His friends. Neighbors. The first responders who went to this crime scene," Baker added.
Haefs acknowledged to killing the boy, claiming he was her biological son. There were no other youngsters in the house.
She faces first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges. Prosecutors demanded that she be remanded in custody without bail.
"This child’s death is a call for something more," Baker continued. "Our community must heed the call. Law enforcement, prosecutors, public health officials, social service providers, all of our many partners must work together to address the violence. Strong collaborations are needed to lean into this difficult challenge, and better protect our community’s most vulnerable population, our kids."
