Police Interrupt Murder-Suicide And Find Something Else Truly Disturbing

California police discover three dead children all under 8-years-old as well as an injured woman while conducting a welfare check Wednesday in an apparent murder-suicide attempt.

Deputies from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to a call for a welfare check on Brice Street in Le Grand and found the three deceased children and the injured woman Wednesday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s. Police said it looked as though the woman’s injuries were self-inflicted.

The woman, identified as 31-year-old Patricia Ortiz, killed her three children, ages eight, five, and three, then attempted to kill herself, according to the sheriff’s office.

Ortiz was taken to a hospital in critical condition when well enough she will be transported to the county jail and booked for three counts of murder.

A neighbor, Elias Vargas, said that he had heard a man shouting and pacing near the apartment after the murders.

“He said, ‘My kids were killed!’ So, that’s when I realized something serious happened there at the house,” Vargas said.

The incident is still under investigation, and the children’s causes of death have not yet been released.
