Obama’s Warning: Time to Ditch the Whining
Former President Obama isn’t holding back. With Trump back in office, he’s urging the Democrats to toughen up. No more excuses. No more soft moves.
At a private New Jersey fundraiser on July 12, hosted by Gov. Phil Murphy, he hit his own party hard. He wants them to stop “navel-gazing” and “being in fetal positions” instead of getting real work done. As CNN reported, Obama told his crowd, “I think it’s going to require a little bit less navel-gazing and a little less whining and being in fetal positions.”
Even Michelle Obama is stepping away. In a June 26 NPR Wildcard podcast, she declared, “I am not going to be in politics. I’m not giving another political speech. I’m not campaigning for another candidate.” That only adds fuel to the fire. The Obamas are clearly distancing themselves from the Democrats’ internal chaos.
Obama’s message sounds like a last call to action. He laid it out plain and simple: “If you are disappointed right now, this is exactly the time that you get in there and do something.” He threw down the gauntlet—if you champion free speech, you have to speak up when it counts. “Don’t say that you care deeply about free speech and then you’re quiet. No, you stand up for free speech when it’s hard.”
The irony isn’t lost on anyone. Under his watch, critics say, the IRS went after conservative nonprofits and his administration pushed Big Tech censorship in the name of “misinformation.” Still, Obama isn’t pausing. He’s putting faith in state-level races in New Jersey and Virginia.
He even gave a nod to candidates like Abigail Spanberger (VA) and Mikie Sherrill (NJ), describing them as “powerful spokespersons for a pragmatic, commonsense desire to help people.” His advice? Stop waiting for a messiah. “Stop looking for the quick fix,” he said. “Stop looking for the messiah. You have great candidates running races right now. Support those candidates.”
It’s a hard-hitting reality check. Years of chasing far-left policies have left the Democrats divided and out of touch with blue-collar voters, parents, and business owners. Their credibility is already in the tank after leadership failures, economic woes, open borders, and radical social policies.
Obama continued with a veiled attack on both progressives and centrists, urging them to focus less on internal debates and more on tangible results. He even warned institutions—universities, law firms, and more—against succumbing to “political intimidation.” This jab comes on the heels of growing concerns over cancel culture, DEI mandates, and a hostile stance against dissent.
“What’s being asked of us is to make some effort to stand up for the things that you think are right and be willing to be a little bit uncomfortable in defense of your values,” Obama said. “And in defense of the country. And in defense of the world that you want to leave to your children and your grandchildren. And if we all do that… we will rebuild momentum and we will position ourselves to get this country moving in the direction it should.”
But let’s be real. No amount of motivational talk is going to fix years of missteps. Trump voters see this as another sign of systemic rot. The Democrats are floundering, and Obama’s latest words only underscore their deep-rooted problems.
