Minnesota Daycare Worker With History of Erratic Behavior Charged With Second-Degree Murder

Tragedy Strikes at Minnesota Daycare: Infant Killed by Worker

Shocking news hit Savage, Minnesota, as an 11-month-old baby boy, Harvey Muklebust, was suffocated to death by daycare worker Theah Russell at the Rocking Horse Ranch daycare. It happened in September 2025, shaking the community to its core.

On September 22, 2025, tragedy unfolded when a worker at the daycare called 911, reporting that baby Harvey wasn’t breathing. The baby was rushed to the hospital, but it was too late. Three days earlier, authorities had already been called to the facility when a 4-month-old appeared injured, with blood under the nose and mouth.

Police sprang into action. They arrested 18-year-old Russell, charging her with second-degree murder for Harvey’s death and attempted murder for trying to strangle another child. Savage Police Chief Brady Juell mentioned Russell’s troubling past behavior, noting her history of “erratic behavior” and “attention-seeking acts,” which included the intentional suffocation of Muklebust.

With Russell’s arrest, the daycare’s license has been suspended, leaving many parents in turmoil and fear. The Muklebust family, overwhelmed with grief, delivered emotional remarks at a press conference.

Shockingly, this isn’t an isolated incident. Last year, a similar tragedy occurred in Georgia, where a daycare worker was arrested for severely beating a boy at Little Blessings Child Care. Heart-wrenching photos of the injured baby with a black eye and facial cuts circulated on social media.

In a world where parents should feel secure leaving their children, these incidents are stark reminders of the dangers lurking in what should be safe havens.
