Megyn Kelly Calls Out AOC and the Squad
Megyn Kelly isn’t holding back when it comes to progressive politicians. Recently, she took a jab at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and her “Squad.” During a conversation with venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya on the “All In” podcast, Kelly expressed her concerns about American politics today.
“It’s getting worse because of Instagram and AOC, that kind of person,” Kelly stated bluntly. When asked to elaborate, she didn’t mince words: “These are congressional Kardashians.” Ouch! It’s clear that Kelly sees this group as more focused on fame than real leadership.
The Squad’s Social Media Strategy
The “Squad” consists of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). They are known for their heavy use of social media platforms like Instagram and X to connect with supporters and push their progressive agendas. But for Kelly, this approach is not just annoying; it signals a troubling trend in politics where substance takes a backseat to style.
Kelly emphasized her point by saying, “I’m going to tell you something, my experience in the news business, dealing with politicians leads me to believe that the people in this room and on this stage over your two-day conference are the people we need to be looking to for our future leaders and ideas and to save the country. It’s not Washington DC. All the incentives to be a good person are gone.” This perspective raises important questions about who truly deserves our attention as potential leaders.
AOC Under Fire from All Sides
AOC has made headlines for her bold positions and massive following. However, she also faces substantial criticism from conservatives like Megyn Kelly. During the first day of the 2024 DNC in Chicago, Kelly tweeted that “All AOC wants is to be a star. Congressional Kardashian.” This statement captures how many view AOC’s motivations—more about personal brand than genuine service.
It’s not just Kelly who feels this way. Recently, presidential candidate Jill Stein took aim at AOC too, declaring that “AOC is the attack dog du jour and the Democrats are running scared” following attempts by Democrats to remove Stein from the ballot in an effort to protect votes for Kamala Harris. This shows that even within their own party, there are cracks appearing regarding AOC’s role.
