Jeremiah Ellison, the son of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, is raking in a six-figure salary as a member of the Minneapolis City Council.
Now he’s snagged a paid fellowship at Harvard University. But guess what? He doesn’t want to give up his cozy city council job.
Despite saying he’ll make trips back to Minneapolis for meetings, not everyone is thrilled about this arrangement.
FOX News reports:
Keith Ellison’s son to keep 6-figure Minneapolis councilmember salary during fellowship at Harvard
Jeremiah Ellison announced on Wednesday that he’ll keep receiving his six-figure salary while taking on a full-time fellowship at Harvard. This has raised eyebrows among his fellow councilmembers.
Critics say he won’t be able to attend meetings or fulfill his responsibilities. He’s pulling in about $110,000 for his council role, plus the fellowship paycheck.
“I am extremely disappointed in this, and I hope that my colleagues don’t allow this to happen — something to happen to North Minneapolis that is not good for them just once again,” council member LaTrisha Vetaw expressed during a press conference last month.
“Without Council member Ellison sitting on those committees, we have zero North Minneapolis representation on those committees. That’s not acceptable to the only other North side council member up here,” she added…
Council rules state that members must be physically present to attend meetings and vote.
