Congress Clash: Trump’s Tariffs on Canada in The Crosshairs
In a dramatic move, the House of Representatives narrowly voted 219 to 211 to terminate President Trump’s tariffs on our northern neighbor, Canada. The surprise twist? Six Republicans broke ranks to side with the Democrats. Thomas Massie, Don Bacon, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jeff Hurd, Kevin Kiley, and Dan Newhouse joined the effort, shaking things up on the Hill.

But wait – don’t hold your breath. The Senate isn’t about to greenlight this. Even if it made it through, President Trump would just slam the veto hammer down.
With Republicans holding a paper-thin margin, Democrats have a reflexive control over the House—like a tightrope walker juggling chainsaws. And as long as RINOs like Massie and company wear away at that margin, Speaker Mike Johnson’s seat grows hotter than a summer scorcher.
The Senate’s no stranger to this dance. A similar measure squeaked through there last year with a little help from Republican rebels – Rand Paul (KY), Mitch McConnell (KY), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Susan Collins (ME). If it comes up again, don’t expect a radical shift from the upper chamber.
Where did all this heat come from? It sparked late last year when Trump cranked Canadian tariffs up by 10% after a certain Ontario production dared use a Reagan ad during the World Series. The President’s icy chill toward north-of-border negotiations followed suit.
Right before Wednesday’s vote, Trump rallied the troops on Truth Social, declaring, “Canada has taken advantage of the United States on Trade for many years… TARIFFS make a WIN for us, EASY. Republicans must keep it that way!” Quite the battle cry.
