Golfer Goes Ballistic Shoots Man Over Walking Dog On Course

A 74-year-old golfer shot and wounded a 64-year-old man Sunday for walking his dog on a Florida golf course. Robert Levine chased Herbert Merritt around a tree Sunday evening while firing off five rounds to the astonishment of the entire country club. Merritt was walking his dog when he was hit in the left ankle by a bullet, according to the police report.

The incident unfolded near the 15th hole at the Kings Point Golf Course in a 55-plus gated community located in Delray Beach.

Levine sped his golf cart toward Merritt yelling as he chased him around. Witnesses said Levine also kicked Merritt’s head and later hit him with a golf club while holding a weapon in his other hand.

Merritt told authorities that he had never even met Levine and that he had nothing to instigate the altercation. He said that “he felt like Levine was trying to kill him.”

Merritt was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries. Levine was charged with attempted first-degree murder.
