Gen. Milley Leading the Charge: US Readies Battalion for Deployment in Five Weeks

The United States is taking the lead in providing support and training to Ukraine as they face a regional adversary.

The U.S. has already trained about 3,100 Ukrainian troops on how to use and maintain certain weapons and other equipment, including howitzers, armored vehicles, and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). Now, under the direction of Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, an additional battalion of Ukrainians will be ready to deploy against the Russians within five weeks’ time.

The effort being put forth by the United States is commendable; it shows our commitment to helping Ukraine defend itself from Russian aggression while also demonstrating our ongoing dedication to protecting freedom and democracy across Europe.

Not only are we providing training for these Ukrainian soldiers but we are also supplying them with much-needed weapons and equipment that have been donated by other countries around the world. This kind of international solidarity helps strengthen our collective defense goals throughout this region in order to ensure peace and stability for all involved parties going forward.

Milley plans on visiting Grafenwoehr's training area Monday in order to observe first-hand what is being done there. This move exemplifies his unwavering dedication not just to advancing American interests abroad but also to addressing humanitarian issues which may arise as a result of geopolitical instability or military conflict between nations such as Russia and Ukraine.

“This support is really important for Ukraine to be able to defend itself,” Milley said. “And we’re hoping to be able to pull this together here in short order.”

The ultimate goal is for all the incoming weapons and equipment to be delivered to Ukraine so the newly trained forces will be able to use it “sometime before the spring rains show up. That would be ideal,” Milley added.

The efforts undertaken by U.S forces should be praised; it shows that even though we are far away from the situation at hand, when necessary we stand ready with both moral support as well as tangible contributions towards ensuring peace remains in place for all those affected by conflict or political unrest abroad.

We cannot allow Russia's illegal incursion into sovereign territories to go unchecked; doing so would set a dangerous precedent going forward that could potentially threaten global security if left unchecked.
