A recent report from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) revealed that the FBI had 26 confidential human sources (CHS) present in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021, during the Capitol riot. But here’s where it gets interesting: these sources were not undercover agents and didn’t have permission to enter restricted areas or break any laws. One of these CHS even had info about right-wing group travel plans before the event, showing the FBI was keeping an eye on potential threats.
The FBI’s Monitoring Efforts
According to the OIG report, the FBI had tasked three of these CHSs with monitoring potential domestic terrorism subjects in D.C. on Jan. 6. While some did enter the Capitol or restricted areas, none have faced prosecution yet. This critical detail has been conveniently overlooked by liberal media outlets that prefer to spotlight the report’s critiques of the FBI’s coordination leading up to the riot.
Let’s not forget the FBI’s track record of using informants and undercover agents to infiltrate right-wing groups. Remember when they tried to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer? During the Capitol riot, there were also multiple informants inside groups like the Proud Boys, who have been painted unfairly as villains by the media. Notably, Enrique Tarrio, their former leader, was identified as a known informant for law enforcement.
Media Bias and Misrepresentation
Despite what you may read in biased news outlets, it’s worth noting that the FBI has agreed to consider OIG’s suggestions for improvements going forward. While there are valid questions about their actions before January 6th, it’s evident that media narratives have skewed away from an accurate portrayal of what transpired.
The Truth About January 6th
The OIG’s findings illustrate that while the FBI was certainly monitoring threats leading up to Jan. 6, there were no undercover agents or informants instigating or participating in what happened that day. Yet, the liberal media continues to push their narrative, vilifying Proud Boys and other right-wing groups while ignoring factual evidence.
