Cornhole Star Faces Murder Charge

What police say happened

Charles County authorities say Dayton James Webber, 27, is charged with murder after a deadly shooting in La Plata, Maryland, over the weekend. Investigators say Webber was in the driver’s seat when he allegedly shot 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells, who was sitting in the front passenger seat during an argument. Police say Webber then drove away with Wells’s body still in the car before later fleeing to Virginia. The details are grim enough without the usual PR haze, so the core question is simple: what happened in that car, and what does the evidence show?

Who Webber was in public

Webber was known outside this case as a professional cornhole player and, according to past media profiles, a man who had been a quadruple amputee since infancy. NBC Washington noted that he had been featured years earlier for his sports interests and later wrote about his rise in cornhole. That background may explain why this arrest drew attention fast, but it does not soften the charge or change the job for investigators. Public profiles are easy to print, while the facts of a murder case still have to survive court, not a press release.

Videos circulating online

Video clips posted online show Webber competing in cornhole and, in a separate clip from 2024, loading and firing a handgun. Those clips are circulating because the internet never misses a chance to turn a tragedy into a replay reel. The two posts shared by Collin Rugg are here:
